The Castle of Ali Pasha Tepelena is located in the north of the city in a geographical position that has helped to protect the city. From historical sources, the castle has been exploited by Ali Pasha. The present castle was rebuilt by him in 1819 with an area of 4-5 ha with three entrances and 3 towers. Until 1820 it was the second residence of Ali Pasha Tepelena. The Fountain of Uji i Ftohte Tepelene is a tourist area 8 km south of the town of Tepelena. It is called “cold water” because the area is dominated by natural rocky springs where the water always flows cold and clean. This tourist place is frequented by the inhabitants of the towns of Tepelene, Permet and Gjirokastra. It is easy to visit because it is near the highway Tepelene – Gjirokaster.
