Orikum is located in the south of the city of Vlora on the national road Vlora-Saranda. Its geographical position made it an important port on the Adriatic coast. Orikum was used by the Romans in ancient times as a defensive base in the wars against the Illyrians as well as in the 3rd century BC against the Macedonians, who actually occupied it in 214 BC Julius Caesar to his troops settled in the fields there for several months, until they were taken by Pompey (Pompey Magnus). Being at the crossroads of such influences, Orikum became a civilized urban center, as evidenced by some archaeological finds, There is also a small theater, with a capacity of 400 spectators and its traces of ruins and walls are clearly visible. Nearby is the church of Marmiroi. This is a church dating back to the Byzantine period, the Byzantine Emperor Theodore from the 13th century AD. To reach the church you have to pass through the modern city of Orikum in the direction of Pashaliman. Orikum today is an important settlement, which sees renewed development. This is also the result of its favorable geographical position between the city of Vlora and the tourist resort of Llogara, as well as its proximity to the sea.
