Butrint

Overview

Butrint is a city and an archaeological site in Albania, inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrinto has been for centuries an Epirus city, a Roman colony and a bishopric. Butrinto was originally a city in the historic region of Epirus, with contacts with the Greek colony of Corfu and the Illyrian tribes in the north. The oldest archaeological remains date back to a period between the 10th and 8th centuries BC. Today it is declared a UNESCO World Heritage.
