Et’hem Haji Bey built the clock tower during the years 1881-1882, finishing the work with the help of the Tirana’s richest families. In 1928 the Albanian state bought a German clock and built the tower 35 meters up. During the Second World War, the tower was damaged and later repaired in 1946.
