The Cold War Tunnel

Overview

The so-called Cold War Tunnel was built in the late 1970s to protect the local communist leadership.  It  is  becoming  one  of  the  most famous attractions to see in Gjirokastra and the whole country, open to the public during 2014. This  underground  system  located  under  the castle was designed to survive a nuclear attack and reflects the mentality of Albania’s isolation during the communist period.
